Blood Falls, a Natural Time Capsule Containing a Unique Ecosystem

This five-story, blood-red “waterfall” pours ever so slowly out of the Taylor Glacier in Antarctica’s McMurdo Dry Valley. Geologists first discovered the frozen waterfall in 1911, and believed the red color came from algae. Its true nature turned out to be more spectacular.

Roughly two million years ago, a small body of water containing an ancient community of microbes was sealed beneath the surface of the Taylor Glacier. Trapped below a thick layer of ice, the microbes have remained isolated inside a natural time capsule, in a place with no light, oxygen, or heat.

The trapped lake has very high salinity and is rich in iron, which gives the seepage its red color. A fissure in the glacier allows the microbial subglacial lake to flow out, forming the falls without contaminating the ecosystem within.

A: ”In Episode 508, during the prison montage, there was a shot of a guy in prison where he was caught behind a door. A prison door slammed on him, and you can see him through the window. These other guys are coming up on him and they start to stab him with these little shivs, but you only see them through the window, and this guy banging on the glass with his bloody hand and then we cut to Walt’s face, a profile. That was one of my favorite cuts. It wasn’t that flashy, but it meant a lot. In one shot it’s showing how Walt is the guy behind all this mayhem. And he’s very calm. Those are the kind of things that I’m trying to do.”

I remember posting somewhere once in a thread about why girls aren’t exploited in animation anymore where some guy said, “all the disney girls are drawn to be generally attractive, but I don’t think there are any eye-candy men… or are there? Are there any Disney men that lots of girls like?” and I mentioned Roger. Tons of girls replied agreeing with me and the original guy was like “wait, Roger? from 101 Dalmatians? What’s attractive about him, he’s tall and lanky and has a big nose, he isn’t muscley at all! Wouldn’t you all prefer Gaston or something? Or do you girls think his big nose is indicative of something else?” and I was like “no, you idiot, he’s a silly, goofy guy who likes animals and can play a bunch of instruments, that’s why he’s attractive. What’s the matter with you? Gaston, seriously?”

This is why we need more girls in animation. And more guys like Roger apparently.

Roger <3 Definitely the best Disney guy out there. In a way, he’s probably a more idealized interpretation of what girls want in a guy than any of the princes; he’s funny, nerdy, talented, and passionate about his work, whereas all the Disney princes are just generic hot guys with maybe one personality trait— and that’s if you’re lucky because most of them don’t even have that.

And tall, lanky guys are super attractive.

Hm. maybe this is why I’m having so much trouble - because I’m also assuming girls wouldn’t be interested in me because I’m nothing like what I presume is their ideal (Gaston or Charming). I’m not tall and lanky, but I’m kinda like Roger otherwise…but I’ve always assumed no one wants that. Becase why would they? But…apparently…this is fallacious reasoning?
